The Greeves classes as defined by the AMCA

• Pre-60 - for machines first manufactured BEFORE 1960 or manufactured after that date if the design remained unchanged e.g. Some Greeves Hawkstones (Julian is this correct)?

• Pre-65 - for machines proven to be 1965 models or earlier or manufactured after that date if the design remained unchanged e.g. Greeves Hawkstones and Greeves Challengers

• Pre-74 - for machines first manufactured before 1974 or manufactured after that date if the design remained unchanged. Greeves Griffon and QUB.

In addition, the Pre-65 Motocross Club runs the following additional classes at its events:

• Clubman Allcomers - a less competitive class for which any of the above machines are eligible.

• Greeves Championship covers all machines manufactured by Greeves BEFORE 1974

3. Register yourself and your bike with the Pre 65 Club (or other club)

Send the completed Pre65 form to the address supplied at Pre65 (on the form), along with a cheque for the membership fee and a SAE.

You will receive your club membership card and an AMCA membership application form signed by a Pre-65 Motocross Club official.

4. Fill out the AMCA form and send it off (or complete an on-line application) and you'll receive your AMCA race licence, which is valid from the beginning of January to the end of December.

Or  if you are going to do less than 3 scrambles it would be cheaper to purchase a Day AMCA licence.

This cost will be automatically calculated when entering Pre65 meetings online.

Why do I need an AMCA licence?

The Pre-65 Motocross Club is affiliated with the AMCA and race meetings are run in-line with AMCA

regulations. All competitors and officials are insured for the duration of the meeting by the AMCA. You will not be allowed to race without an AMCA annual race licence, or a day licence.ve got my Pre-65 Motocross Club membership and AMCA race licence. How do I enter for a race meeting?


5. Pick your event to enter

All Pre65 Club meetings are now online entry only. Go to the AMCA website and see the Fixtures/Online Entry page, which can be found under the Scrambles tab on the top navigation bar. You will then be asked to logon.

Go to 'Manage Events' button and look for Pre65 Scramble in the list. Once the event has opened you will see the 'Regs' for that meeting and you will be able to enter.

6. Read the "Regs"

"Regs" is the term used to describe the document that contains all the relevant information about a given race meeting, which includes the date and start times of the event, the Secretary's address, Clerk of the Course, name, directions to the circuit and grid reference, entry prices and much more.

7. Get the AMCA rulebook

The Pre 65 Motocross runs its events under the guidance of the Amateur Motor Cycle Association www.amca.uk.com, the primary classes of which and lists of eligible machines are defined the AMCA Classic.

Rule Book available at http://www.amca.uk.com/about/rulebooks. The Rule book is updated annually, so please ensure you are always referring to the latest edition.

8.  Prepare your bike. See enclosed links:

Ensure Eligibility: Ensure you and your Greeves bike meet the eligibility criteria for participating in the Pre 65 motocross events, is in good working condition and complies with the technical regulations outlined by the championship organisers.

It will be scrutineered before being allowed on the course, so make any necessary repairs or modifications to meet the requirements.

9. Pay Greeves Registration Fees to be in the GREEVES CHAMPIONSHIP

There may be registration fees associated with joining the championship and obtaining a race number.

10. If possible, practice and train on your Greeves motorcycle.

11. On Race Day

  • Get there early

  • Introduce yourself

  • Walk the track

  • Attend safety briefings or orientation sessions required by the championship organizers

  • Refresh yourself on the rules in the AMCA handbook and safety protocols of the event
